Day 8: Do You Like Experimenting With Makeup? / Day 9: Favourite Brand

Trying to do some catch-up on posts! The end of semester crunch caught me pretty badly.

Day 8

I love playing around with eyeshadow colors and weird lip colors, but I only ever do it at night.  I try not to do anything crazy day-to-day because my style of dress is already slightly unorthodox, so I don’t want to look like a walking freakshow.  It makes me sad because there are so many things I’d love to try with my makeup, but I know I wouldn’t be able to wear them.  There’s also the fact that if I experiment and mess up in the morning, I won’t have enough time to fix it and do a new look.

Yesterday I actually tried experimenting for the first time in a while. I used Meow Cosmetics Tutankhamen with Fyrinnae Mephisto in the outer corner.  It was such a gorgeous color combination but I messed up my eyeliner so I had to wipe it off. I was so sad!

Day 9

I don’t really have a favorite brand, as I’ve yet to encounter a brand that does it all for me. That and I’m not a fan of the cultish brand loyalty that often rears its head in the beauty community.  I especially don’t get the hype over MAC — I find their products spectacularly underwhelming and even when visiting a counter or store I feel very little motivation to buy.  That said, while I don’t have a favorite, I do have favorites.  Here are a couple:

  • Inglot
  • Urban Decay
  • NYX Cosmetics

  1. I like to experiment with makeup on weekends. I replicate the look on weekdays if it works out and isn’t too extreme for my job. So far I’ve worn bright blue eyeshadow at my job and have been complimented by colleagues and clients alike. I’m working up the nerve to try bright red eyeshadow and yellow eyeshadow (separately)… on the weekend at the very least.

I’m the same with eyeshadow and lip colours and product favourites (or lack of), I don’t have an absolute favourite for brands. I pick and choose and like to try new products. I do have a preference for indie companies and much of my makeup collection is composed of indies.
